What: DJ party fundraiser for a new bathtub in the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit at Mt. St. Joseph Hospital
Where: John Fluevog Store in Gastown, Vancouver, BC
Cost of bathtub: $42,000
Funds generated March 5, 2014: $8,200
The Do Good Party was created to raise funds for a bathtub for the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit at Mt. St. Joseph Hospital in Vancouver. It's a cause that's close to my heart because my grandmother had a mental illness. The bathtub at Mt. St. Joseph's hadn't been in operation for over a year and they could only provide showers to patients.
We put on a DJ party March 5, 2014 at the beautiful Fluevog flagship store, generating funds from highly prized silent auction items, Fluevog shoe sales (50% of shoe sales were donated) and ticket sales.
After hearing that a lot of our friends couldn't make it to our Do Good Party fundraiser because they were going to see Hillary Clinton speak down the street, we decided to invite her too. We sent an invitation to our party with one Fluevog shoe to woo her. Upon arrival, she would be fitted with the matching shoe (but only before 11pm... it's when we turn into pumpkins). It got a lot of attention and even made it into the local paper. Alas, after numerous attempts with her office, she couldn't make it. Too bad. You missed out on a great party, Hillary!
The balance of the funds were raised by July 2014. The new bathtub will be installed September 2014.
